Nasal polyp removal cost UK: private prices and NHS waiting times

Before you weigh this price: the NHS wait for a nasal polyp removal runs from 4 to 57 weeks depending on which trust you're under, which is what decides whether paying is worth it.

Private nasal polyp removal is priced in two tiers, so this page shows them separately: a simple polypectomy, which removes the polyps, and full functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), which also opens the sinuses and is the more involved operation. What you pay depends on which one you need and on what the price includes. On the NHS both are free, but you wait.

The two tiers

A simple polypectomy is the smaller procedure and costs less. FESS is more extensive and costs more. Some hospitals quote a fixed all-inclusive package; others quote the hospital charge alone and bill the surgeon, anaesthetist and first consultation separately.

Totals vary by what is included, so before you commit, confirm with the hospital whether the surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees are inside the figure or added on top.

Paying privately buys speed, not a better result: it is the same surgery the NHS does. Whether it is worth it depends on how long your own hospital's queue is, and whether a nearby NHS hospital is faster.
